welcome!

I love all things retro, especially old technology. I—like most people on neocities i think—am becoming increasingly adamant about physical media and digital autonomy. it's refreshing to browse digital spaces without algorithms and subcription costs. it is important to have ownership over the things you've cultivated and cherished. i'm proud to call this corner of the internet my own and am excited to continue sharing my life through it over the coming years. this is my personal little digital garden so i intend to keep it updated regularly, but most of my efforts are dedicated to my other neocities projects. right now my other sites are strictly dedicated to a specific band, but i have huge plans for more sites that are community participatory and, i think, very very cool!

i've been doing that thing recently where —instead of having one idea and following it all the way through —i've had tons of great ideas for things, started all of them, and have been very slowly working on them piecemeal. Because, instead of filling up 5 cups with water one at a time, isn't it more fun and less stressful to place one drop into each forever and ever on a loop?

typically when the theme of a movie is this heavy-handed it's clumsy, but in this case it felt justified. overall very fun, couple of really funny and creative moments. no real complaints but also no real 'it'-factor. very tight script also, well done.

crazy to think that, for normal people, this is a horror movie where the dude is the villain -but for millions of men out there this is a horror movie where everyone but him are the villains.

this movie is clearly aware of how unserious and shitty it is. i usually like that and it was done well for sure, but it could've been a genuinely good bad movie if it actually had any slasher stuff in it. it's still enjoyable but the first eighty percent of it is high school gossip and tits, but when it finally does pay off the gore they anticipated --- it was just thirty minutes of dozens of people dying to the same thing in the exact same way. was still a good movie to laugh at with friends. could be -should be- one star, but im not disappointed that i watched it.

you know a movie is truly special when no one else on the planet could've made it.

this is one of those movies that feels like the culmination of a director's filmography---like inception or interstellar for nolan or ingloreous basterds or django for tarantino. it's all the best parts of every movie he's made and all the refinement rolled into one quintessential wes anderson film.

i wish more big studios would give budgets and theatres to unique indie artists with stories to tell.

the cast is immaculate. fiennes somehow manages to stand out despite a perfect performance from the rest of he cast. fiennes was born to play gustav.

it goes without saying at this point, but anderson's mixture of camp and dry humor with sincerity and passion is unlike any other. lots of movies leave you with a lasting impact after the credits roll, but his films leave you with a specific, ethereal feeling. i want to spend more time in his world.

cinematography, color, costuming, hair, makeup, direction, acting are all five out of fives - it all exudes fervor.

also i watched this with my boyfriend for his first time and it was such a treat to see him have some a positive response to it!! he hasn't always liked the movies i've showed him--and he's generally not a movie guy--but he adored every second of it and we watched it again the next night, with plans to watch the rest of anderson's catalogue. i love my boyfriend!!!

I haven't finished this movie yet but I am rating it 5 stars because it is important to me.

for almost a year now I have been dealing with severe panic disorder and agoraphobia. ive been unable to leave my house without having an emergency-level panic attack.

at first I struggled to get in a car, then I made it around the block. I was soon able to go as far as a block or so. I would go to a grocery store down the street almost daily, fighting overwhelming panic, to normalize being farther and farther for longer and longer.

for the last few months I've made great strides through great pain and perseverance. I have been able to, somewhat comfortably, go to places within a few mile radius without major incident.

yesterday my boyfriend and I went rather far to a cute store for a while, which on it's own was a pretty good accomplishment, when he floated the idea of going to see this movie. mickey 17 had been a long term goal of ours since it was announced because we love the cast and director. for months our next big goal was to get me to a point where we could go see it.

so I said yes and we drove further than I've been since the start of this ordeal. through traffic and waiting in long lines for the ticket and concessions, we made it into the theatre. I struggled hard, but once we got seated I was able to focus on the movie the best I could. despite being very much anxious, physically tensed, heart racing, shallow painful breaths, and mind trying every moment to convince me to leave, I sat there with my perfect, supporting, love-of-my-life boyfriend in my arms and let the magic of some of my favorite actors and director lull me into a momentary suspension of real life.

despite a few rough moments and one instance of me telling my boyfriend that I thought I needed to leave, next thing I knew we had watched about 2 hours of the movie.

sadly the physical and mental exhaustion caught up with me and I had to tell my partner I needed to leave. I regret not sticking out the last ~20 mins of the movie, because think I could've, but I'm nevertheless so proud of myself for what it all meant for me.

not only was the movie fantastic and everything I hoped it'd be, going to see it was an important moment in my year-long journey and marked a the beginning of a new chapter - one where I finally see a real path to normalcy.

I went into this movie scared of what might happen, only to be cremated, recycled, and rebirthed into a new me. it's something I know I'll look back on as a pivotal moment for me and I'm glad bong joon ho and the beloved cast could be a part of it

devastated and inconsolable. sent me into a fit of crying so hard and for so long that i hyperventilated, got so dizzy, that i was thrust into a full panic attack. without question the most heart-wrenching movie i've ever seen. i cannot believe that movie was made, like created. i cannot believe that came from someone's mind. i'll have to come back and review this properly and with more detail when i'm in a better state of mind, which will perhaps be never again. i don't know if i can handle watching this movie ever again, or even think about it ever again. for now, all i can say is that that was true art.

i was really holding out for a happy ending.

update: i think i've mostly recovered - enough to recognize the actual movie and not just the existential

a very surgical and methodically created, very tight script. the cast is excellent and the pacing was captivating - never missing an opportunity to escalate the tension and unease. the ending was underwhelming. It was fine but for how driven the rest of the movie was, it seems like the ending was somehow an afterthought. regardless, very enjoyable.

very charming and understated. i really enjoyed how the atmosphere of the movie subtly implies a sort of ominous looming threat to the characters, as if they were in some sort of apocalyptic scene or under an oppressive regime. once you process the movie you realize that the sense of paranoia and unknown is a reflection of will's experience and point of view.

i love movies that are just about a few characters and their raw emotions, so naturally i loved this movie. it's mature, impactful and a very unique representation of political exploitation and trauma.

    The Social Network

    ★ ★ ★ ★ ½

aaron sorkin writes the best dialogue, david fincher directs the best direction, the cast is flawless and acted wonderfully. it's not often you hear a story where every single person involved is a collosal piece of shit - except maybe eduardo and of course albright. although i wouldnt be surprised to find out that eduardo is a piece of shit too.

Edgar Wright can't miss, love his attention to detail and passion with every shot. So much of the movie is synced to music perfectly and choreographed to make it all look effortless. Over the top and goofy, very fun.

I like to think every movie starts off at a 5 star until proven otherwise.

At about halfway through it was sitting around a 4-4.5. The story built a lot of intrigue and the style was off the charts. The choice of the modern synth soundtrack against a stereotypically-high class environment really set the tone of the characters and the movie. The time jumping gets more and more enriching.

Another half an hour in the score was sitting at 3.5-4. The full significance of the match has been established and the stakes have been made clear but the movie lingers around a little too much.

By the end it settled at a 2.5 star. While I was happy to see the end to the story and a relatively satisfying ending, the half an hour of slow-motion leading up to the final point was tiring. The ball in the hole of the racket was savage and brought it to 3 stars even. But I can't help but feel exhausted. The movie could've been at least 45 minutes shorter and had the same impact. The filmmakers are talented as hell at creating tension that rises and rises and rises, but when the tension became unbearable and pacing would dictate that a payoff should be coming soon - there was another 30 mins of extra tension... It felt very self-indulgent and unnecessary, as well as extremely frustrating.

Overall, very glad I watched it. Patrick and Art are soul mates, they're all bat shit insane, this is the love triangle that Twilight wishes it could be.

Pretty much perfect for a movie of a musical. True and faithful to the original with beautiful creative liberties taken at just the right times and in the right ways.

Cast is perfect, choreography is NUTS and the performances are overall amazing

having a mental breakdown while manically eating lunch meat covered in ijon mustard with your hands is the most relatable thing i've ever seen in a movie

no big essay for this review strictly because i dont have time for a 10,000 word lecture on how and why this is the greatest piece of art created by man. for now i'll just say that its my favorite movie and infinitely rewatchable.

    Spider-Man: Far From Home

    ★ ★ ★ ★

probably the best marvel movie. You can tell because even if it wasn't a marvel movie it would be really good. The twists were genuinely surprising and the illusion scenes are creative and genius.

Tom and Zendaya are adorable. The movie is funny as hell and super lighthearted with a dash of serious notes that are quite effective.

Also I can't believe they put the guy from fortnite into a marvel movie

    2001: A Space Odyssey

    big fat goose egg

zero stars for now until I master all of mathematics and figure out the highest negative number conceptually possible in order to rate this properly. hands down worst movie ever created, quite possibly the worst piece of art or media ever crafted by humanity in all of its history. anyone who says this movie is good is either lying or hasn't seen it.

i don't want to hate any movie, this one included, and i appreciate every single movie or artistic venture regardless of whether i like it or not. this movie is the exception, only because it actively insists that i hate it. it commands hatred and will settle for nothing less so much to the point that, as an athiest, i'm convinced that satan is actually present in our world. Sincerely, if i were given a choice to spend eternity in the flaming hell of the bible or eternity watching this movie on repeat - i would enthusiatically choose fire and brimstone.
